It is a legal requirement that all workplaces are prepared for an emergency and have a plan in place to respond if an event was to take place. A Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU) must ensure that an emergency plan is prepared for the workplace as outlined in division 4, section 43 of the WHS Regulation [model] 2017. Every workplace should take all reasonably practicable steps to prevent injury, illness, harm, or damage, however from time-to-time unplanned incidents can occur. While a well-planned and maintained WHS management system should ensure that such unplanned events are rare, businesses should ensure that they are prepared for and able to effectively respond to an emergency.
In this InMotion, we will explore the general concepts of emergency preparedness and response.
